CSE's Course Information Master of Science Teaching Graduate Program

The goal of the Master of Science Teaching Degree is to advance the use and understanding of science inquiry through an active research program. Graduate students work with faculty advisors to develop and carry out an assessment-based research agenda. Several scholarship pathways are open to MST graduate students, including citizen science, service learning and research based science learning. MST graduate students have the opportunity to work with students at various grade levels, from kindergarten to undergraduate college students. In addition to research, MST students take both graduate level science and education courses. For more information about the MST program, read the brochure or contact Jennifer Wells at 503-725-8345 or email wellj@pdx.edu

The Robert Noyce Scholarship Program The Robert Noyce Scholarship Program a PSU is a National Science Foundation funded program seeking to help meet the need to prepare today’s college students to become tomorrow’s exemplary K-12 science and mathematics teachers. This is a graduate level two year program that includes a Master in Science Teaching in year one and the Graduate Teacher Education Program (GTEP) in year two. The goals of this National Science Foundation funded program is to provide pre-service science and math teachers with skills in conducting science education research in order to become reflective practioners. The program also provides the opportunity for students to take science content courses and curriculum and instruction courses designed to prepare pre-service teachers to work with highly diverse classrooms. This includes a high percentage of English language learners, Talented and Gifted learners and other special needs students. * Link to a graph showing the required coursework for the Center for Science Education Noyce adapted MST program. Professional Development Courses The Center for Science Education offers a number of credit-based professional development courses for existing teachers. These courses are taught by CSE faculty, program directors and community partners and cover a wide range of environmental and science education topics requirements. Many of these courses are offered in conjunction with our community programs such as the Oregon Teacher Scholars Program. Capstone Courses The Center for Science Education offers a variety of senior Capstone classes taught by CSE faculty and community partners. Students in these courses develop a strategy to address a problem or concern in the community and implement this strategy over the course of the term(s).
